American Sign Language Institutes are training sessions that are the equivalent to two levels of our standard class curriculum. Students taking one or more Institutes can accelerate their progress toward fluency. See the descriptions below.
The Institutes can take place at one of our sites or at your facility. They are available nationally. Outside a fifty mile radius of Providence, RI, there are travel fees and possibly accommodation fees. At your site, we can offer the level 1 or 2 Institute.
Summer Institutes have brought students together from all over the country. We have had students from California, Colorado, Wisconsin, NJ, NY, ME, MA, NH, VT, CT, RI, FL and PA. These intensive trainings build your knowledge, skill and confidence quickly.
For those who are traveling here, we can provide transportation – pick up at the train station, bus station or airport, and car pooling while here.
You can register online or we can send you a registration form.

Summer Immersion – for Intermediate and Advanced signers. Students must have completed ASLA level 6 or the equivalent (3 college semesters).
Dates: Saturday, August 27, 8:30 am to 8:30 pm (approximately) and Sunday – August 28, 1:00 – 5:00 pm
Cost: $175.00. This covers transportation and lunch. Students will want to have some money to cover eating later, souvenirs, etc.
Field trip (Sat) – Martha’s Vineyard. We depart from ASL Academy in Pawtucket at 8:30 and arrive in New Bedford. We will take the high speed ferry to M.V. and land at Oak Bluffs. We spend the morning first by going to the tabernacle and learning about the gingerbread houses of Oak Bluffs. We then spend some time strolling amongst the houses, describing their physical features and anything that comes up in our conversations. We will enter one of the houses to see what they are like on the inside.
Lunch is in downtown Oak Bluffs and we will visit the oldest continuously working carousel in the U.S. We will ride along the east coast of the island to Edgartown and learn about one of the former whaling capitols of the world. We will walk around town on the cobblestone streets as we view captain’s mansions and the beautiful harbor.
Sunday, we meet at ASLA and review some of the extensive new vocabulary we learned and share stories from our trip. We have never had enough time in a Sunday afternoon to cover all the new things learned, so it is a rich experience.
