American Sign Language Institutes are training sessions that are the equivalent to two levels of our standard class curriculum. Students taking one or more Institutes can accelerate their progress toward fluency. See the descriptions below.
Please note: Institutes are not ASL camps. We offer a classroom experience. We do not have dorms or housing facilities. Nearby, there are a number of airbnbs that range in price from $23.00 a night on up. There are many hotels in the area. If you want suggestions or assistance, we will be happy to help.
The Institutes can take place throughout the year at one of our sites or at your facility. They are available nationally.
Outside a fifty mile radius of Providence, RI, there are travel fees and possibly accommodation fees. At your site, we can offer the level 1, 2 or 3 Institute.
Summer Institutes have brought students together from all over the country. We have had students from: California, Colorado, Wisconsin, New Jersey, New York, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Vermont, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Florida, Pennsylvania, Illinois and Missouri. These intensive trainings build your knowledge, skill and confidence quickly. This year, for the first time, we will be welcoming international students from the Dominican Republic and Europe.
For those who are traveling here, we can provide transportation – pick up at the train station, bus station or airport, and car pooling while here.
You can register online or we can send you a registration form.

There will be work on expressive and receptive skills, and live practice and presentations.
This year, we have an Immersion field trip – signing all day in a real-world environment (Wednesday), and a silent lunch together (Friday).
The Immersion is to Martha’s Vineyard where you will get an ASL tour of Oak Bluffs and Edgartown on this historically rich island. In our school, you will see on some posters the phrase “In the spirit of Chilmark.” Chilmark is a town on Martha’s Vineyard where there was once a bi-lingual signing community for over 200 years and Hearing and Deaf were one community.
